The Ego is a very sneaky saboteur. It doesn't always attack our dreams and goals head-on. It doesn't always jump up and down and scream at us, telling us that we will fail or look like a fool for trying. Sometimes it sneaks around the side or through the back door and whispers to us, showing us the success of others who have been doing the work we would like to be doing for many years, and invites us to compare ourselves to them. "You could never be THAT successful, could you?" it says. "You could never compare with THEM! How could you even begin to compete with that?"
The ego will also often simply show us how very far our goal is from where we are now. Making us look at that vast distance is enough discouragement for most of us to shelve our dreams and give up.
Why does the Ego do this? Simply put, it's afraid of change. It may not be happy where you're at, but it doesn't want to move because sitting here and complaining about your lot is more comfortable than getting up and making a move to change your life.
This card is a gentle message from your guardian angels asking you NOT to give up on your goals and dreams. Instead of focusing on the finish line, they say, "Just take it one tiny step at a time. Set small goals. Focus on what you want to do TODAY to move your closer to your goal. Even an inch forward is an inch in the right direction. And if you consistently make the effort to move that one inch every day, eventually you will find that you have covered MILES!"
